The movie “War Room” has been
a compelling and surprising win at the movie box office for the last few
weeks. The relatively low budget film
produced and directed by the Kendrick brothers has some people shaking and
scratching their heads wondering why the success.
If you haven’t seen “War
Room” you may not know the basic message is about how to use prayer as a calculated
strategy against the enemy as he comes against us (and our families) for
division and destruction. Sure…this is
not a new idea or thought but here’s what has impressed me about that basic
truth.
A few weeks ago I got to
spend some time with Kara in Baton Rouge and during my stay she wanted to take
the short drive to NOLA (New Orleans) for some shopping and dining. While we
strolled through the streets of the French Quarter, we passed by Jackson Square
where you find artists, musicians and many new age influences complete with
fortune tellers. They have their tables set up with the paraphernalia that
“allows” them to see into the future. As
we past one of the tables, we heard a comment that amazed both of us. Across from the “seer” sat a lady who looked
intently back at the one who had just imparted some astonishing advice and
asked from the teller in all sincerity “So what do I do now with all this great
information?”
Kara and I did not hear what
“great information” was given to the lady but this comment made Kara and I both
ponder the impact of the statement. We
thought about the many times when we are given great information – information
based on the Truth. Kara said it made her think about when we are in church and
we hear great information from the Word yet what do we do with it? Maybe we hear great information in a Bible
study or from a book but again what do we do with it?
That’s why the movie “War
Room” came to my mind. While in Baton
Rouge, Kara and I went to see this movie and we got some “great information”
about prayer. When I read this weekend that
the movie had broken some box office records I know that meant there were
several other thousand people who also got some “great information”.
That’s cool BUT the real
question comes – “What do we do now with
all this great information?” Prayer
is the weapon, the sure weapon against the enemy in our lives and
families. Using scripture in our prayers
gives us a bull’s eye target in each situation.
So what do we do with this
great information – we declare war on the enemy!
“With every prayer and request, pray at
all times in the Spirit..”
Ephesians 6:18
